Scientist in the Molecular Neuroscience team with the opportunity to receive a PhD 65% (m/f/d)

The NMI is a member of the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg. It is involved in application-oriented research at the interface between the life sciences and material science. An interdisciplinary team of scientists is developing new technologies for companies and public research sponsors in the areas of Pharma and Biotech, Biomedicine and Materials Science, and Material Analysis and Electron Microscopy.

At the NMI, the position in the group of  Molecular Biology and Neurobiology is dedicated to the application of viral vectors to modulate the expression of receptor tyrosine kinases as well as downstream signalling components and the analysis of GABAergic synapse organization by confocal imaging and protein biochemistry. The project will be jointly conducted with a PhD student based in Gal Richter-Levin‘s lab who will focus on behavioral analysis and in vivo electrophysiology. Applications are sought for a DFG funded project „The contribution of within-amygdala meta-plasticity to stress-related psychopathologies“.  In close collaboration with the University of Haifa, the project explores specific changes in GABAergic synapses in response to stressful experiences. In selected brain areas, we will investigate the impact of receptor tyrosine kinase signalling to the reorganization of GABAergic synapses and behavioral alterations under stressful conditions.

Requirements

• Master Degree in Neuroscience or in a related subject
• Strong experimental skills
• Solid working expertise in analytical, molecular neuroscience
• Background in molecular neurosience
• Experience with confocal imaging will be considered an asset
• High attention to detail, self-motivation, initiative and dependability in an interdisciplinary team
