We are a non-university research institute at the interface of biosciences and materials science. With our unique, interdisciplinary range of expertise, we are a strong partner in the field of research and development as well as by providing services for regional and international companies. Our services are aimed at companies in the healthcare industry as well as in vehicle, machine and tool construction and cover the broad spectrum of materials technology and quality control.

The Molecular Neuroscience team conducts research in cooperation with academic, clinical, and industrial partners. The group is engaged in the translation of basic research results into industrial application in the field of CNS diseases. The development of novel disease models for drug discovery comprises an important research focus. To strengthen our team we are looking for a scientist in a group leading position (m/f/d) - tenure track model (the current holder of the position is Prof. Dr. Hansjürgen Volkmer).

Your tasks

• Scientific, organisational, and disciplinary management of the group (Post-Docs, Ph.D. students, technicians)

• Acquiring, planning and conducting R&D projects (publically funded as well as funded by industry)
• Project management - overview on various projects at the same time in terms of experimental planning, timelines, milestones, as well as reporting and communication with clients, partners, and sponsors

Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biotechnology or related disciplines with a strong background in neurological or neuropsychiatric disorders
• Strong record in molecular and cell biology, especially in the field of induced pluripotent stem cells
• Management skills - we encourage and support the development of management skills
• Experience to attract public funding research as well as from industrial sponsors
• Experience in supervising Ph.D. students, Post-Docs and Technicians
• Strong attitude to strategic development of the group
• Open minded and highly communicative
• Interact with external academic and industrial networks as well as with internal partners in an interdisciplinary environment
• Excellent team spirit, strong presentation and communication skills 
• Fluency in English
