Scientist (m/f/d) in Neurophysics with the opportunity to earn a doctorate (65%)

The NMI is a member of the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg. It is involved in application-oriented research at the interface between the life sciences and material science. An interdisciplinary team of scientists is developing new technologies for companies and public research sponsors in the areas of Pharma and Biotech, Biomedicine and Materials Science, and Material Analysis and Electron Microscopy.

The research group Neurophysics deals with the interaction of microelectronic systems and neural tissue. In this research group, there is a vacancy for a scientist (m/f/d) with the opportunity to earn a doctorate, starting as early as possible with the following area of responsibility:

Your tasks

Within the DFG Priority Programme „Memristive Devices for Intelligent Technical Systems“ (SPP 2262), a biosensing platform is being developed to enable the efficient signal analysis of neuronal signals on a chip. Memristive systems with their unique properties, such as gradual resistance changes, pulse summation and threshold behavior, can enable compact circuits for neural data processing. Here, memristive elements will be coupled with existing electrode arrays to explore and evaluate the efficiency of novel recording systems for neuronal activity.

  • Evaluation of the biosensor platform for efficient neuronal data processing
  • Measurement and analysis of neuronal signals with the developed hybrid devices
  • Presentation of the project progress (at project meetings and PhD student seminar)
  • Publication of research results

Requirements

  • Completion of a suitable degree in the natural or engineering sciences
  • In-depth knowledge of biomedical engineering
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research (biology and engineering)
  • Programming skills and a structured way of working

We offer

  • Highly motivated, competent and multidisciplinary team with scientific and technical staff
  • An exciting, varied and explorative research project
  • Excellent technical equipment and support
  • Opportunity to spend time in research facilities of the project partners
  • Salary according to the TV-L, the contract is limited to 3 years
