Scientist / PostDoc Biochemistry or Microbiology (m/f/d)

The NMI is a member of the Innovation Alliance Baden-Württemberg. It is involved in application-oriented research at the interface between the life sciences and material science. An interdisciplinary team of scientists is developing new technologies for companies and public research sponsors in the areas of Pharma and Biotech, Biomedicine and Materials Science, and Material Analysis and Electron Microscopy.

The group Biochemistry at the NMI has strong expertise in multiplex miniaturised immunoassays. We are experts in assay development, validation and have unique capabilities for very large screening projects with tens of thousands of samples for biomarker discover and qualification. One strong focus is serological testing for antibodies after pathogen infections (hepatitis viruses, SARS-CoV-2, MTB, etc.). In this group we offer an immediate opening for a scientist (PostDoc, m/w/d) - project management position.

Your tasks

  • Conduction of innovative developments in the general areas of immunoassays (Luminex, ELISA)
  • Planning and conduction of assay development and validation projects
  • Project management - overview on various projects at the same time in terms of experimental planning, timelines, milestones and reporting
  • Communication with clients, partners and sponsors
  • Raising of third party funds, writing of grant applications
  • Supervision of technical staff and support for PhD students


  • PhD degree (within the last 3 years) in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biotechnology or related disciplines with background in Virology / Microbiology
  • Experience in immunoassay development (e.g. Luminex, ELISA, SIMOA) and assay validation
  • Experience in working with proteins and antibodies
  • Experience in handling of large data sets and statistical data evaluation
  • Experience in ‘R’ programming is a plus
  • Experience in lab automation and LIMS is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for translational science, a talent for organizing and a very hands-on approach
  • Excellent team spirit, strong presentation, and communication skills
  • Independent and structured way of working, also under time pressure
  • Fluency in English, German is a plus
