The Cell and Molecular Biology team conducts research in collaboration with academic, clinical, and industrial partners. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Research Associate (m/f/d) with a 65% employment level (possibility to pursue a Ph.D.) - as part of a funded consortium project, in which we aim at developing and functionally characterising an hiPSC-derived 2D/3D model of Parkinson's disease.
Your tasks
- Analysis and elucidation of alpha-synuclein-dependent molecular pathological processes and phenotypes of Parkinson's disease with a focus on mitochondrial function and integrity as well as on neuronal viability and function
- Use and, if necessary, establishment of optogenetic and imaging/microscopic methods
- Establishment of workflows to support scSeq analyses
- Practical support of a funded consortium project to elucidate neurobiological mechanisms of emotional cognition
- Preparation and provision of lentiviral preparations as well as processing and immunohistochemical/microscopic analysis of tissue samples obtained from consortium partners
- Practical support of the cell and molecular biology team in the cultivation and maintenance of hiPSC cultures for use in various projects
- Guidance and supervision of interns and student employees in the processing of research projects
Requirements
- University degree in neuroscience or a related subject
- Confident application of standard molecular biology methods
- Proven practical experience in the establishment and maintenance of eukaryotic cell cultures
- Proven practical experience in histological tissue processing for the preparation of sections and immunocytochemistry/histochemistry
- Basic knowledge and initial practical experience in the handling, passage, and maintenance of human iPSCs and derived cell types
- Basic knowledge of the molecular pathology of Parkinson's disease
- Knowledge of the functioning of and formation, maintenance, and stabilisation of neuronal synapses
- Understanding of and initial experience with fluorescence microscopy methods including confocal microscopy
- Interest in working under conditions of genetic engineering safety level 2 (e.g. preparation of recombinant lentiviral suspensions)
- Proactive, collegial cooperation and the ability to present results in multidisciplinary and heterogeneous project teams are required
